Stress and Fibroids - Coping During Covid-19

Stress and Fibroids

Stress and Fibroids make uncomfortable bedfellows

Stress and Fibroids can, unfortunately, cause additional anxiety during these challenging times of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

They can dominate to such an extent that, without action to mitigate the impact, your health and wellbeing can suffer.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that grow in or around the womb (uterus).

8 out of 10 women will experience them at some stage of their reproductive life.

In this article, I will talk about how you can cope better with the stress of fibroid dominance, despite these challenging times of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Why is it Important to control Stress and Fibroids

The problem is that the pain and fatigue Fibroid symptoms experienced, particularly in black women, can result in Stress.
With Covid-19, the Stress levels can hit a whole new level.

The Result:
A vicious circle of Stress and worry of catching the virus thereby worsening Fibroid symptoms, which leads to even more anxiety.

So why does that vicious circle continue?

Because we women often don’t take time on the type of self-care activities that help lessen Stress.
Taking care of others? Great, but when did you truly last focus on taking care of yourself?

I have discovered that friends and family who have Fibroids, have put their own health interests on the back burner during this Pandemic.

Just like the quote says:

“Every woman who heals herself helps heal all the women who came before her, and all those who come after her”.

Focus on dealing with your own Stress levels will ultimately lead to helping others, while also managing your Fibroid symptoms better.

Breaking the vicious circle

So how do we break the vicious circle?

By “switching off” from a busy activity and taking some time to chill and just relax is often underestimated as a good way for reducing Stress.

I talk about 5 easy relaxation tips for dealing with Fibroids in an earlier article.

Those 5 tips could easily apply today for dealing with stress and fibroids during the Covid-19 Pandemic

You could replace going away on holiday/vacation and socialising with “Zoom parties” or “Zoom holidays”

So many are finding a new hobby or finally completing a task that had been put off pre-Pandemic

I have personally had more time to develop other skills through courses that I might not have considered before the Pandemic.

The satisfaction of learning a new language or how to play the piano rate high in my book of stress relievers!

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, it is important to take the right steps that reduces both Stress and Fibroid domination during this Covid-19 Pandemic.

Especially as a black woman, and having the highest risk of developing Fibroids.

Think about taking steps that work best during lock down or that work best when in social isolation.

You are not alone in facing these challenges and, with modern day technology, you can access a variety of ways to relieve stress.
